Laskys are launching a new mobile phone comparison service powered by Mobilife.com on the 16th June 2011. The service aims to save customers money by analysing their mobile phone useage and giving a breakdown of usage against their current tariff.to coincide with the launch Laskys are running a competition to win a Nintendo 3DS. Customers who use the service before the 15th July will be automatically entered in to the draw and a winner will be picked at random.

My tariffs due to end in July so I thought I’d give this a go. Step one was straight forward. Select my network and click on next.
Next step provide data. 3 options here, provide your carrier account details, upload a PDF of a recent bill or simulate your useage. I know there will be people apprehensive about supplying personal details to a third party but there is an FAQ and security link to read through. And you can opt out of 3rd party mail also. I saw this as no different to linking say my Facebook account to Twitter so I just provided my O2 account details.
Took a few moments for my details to be analysed.
And hey presto! Looks like I’m wasting a lot of money on my phone. 98% of my tariff goes unused and I could be saving £540 per year (Before you say I’m a mug. I’m tied into a long contract so I could get my iPhone for free). I then clicked on “View Best Value Deals” to proceed.
What’s good about the service is that I got a complete breakdown of how I use my current tariff:
- Total monthly usage against my normal bill before extras.
- Minutes used against allowance
- Text used against allowance
- Data used against allowance
- Networks I call
Once you scroll down you can then use the refinements on the left hand side to choose a tariff. You can use the sliders to move your ideal monthly spend up and down, same for data, minutes and texts and also you can select a specific handset. Also once you reach this stage you should have received an email in your inbox which will take you back to this page so you don’t have to login again and again.
On my current contract I’ve opted for loads of minutes and texts to get a free phone and unlimited data. But in reality I barely ring people, I SMS less than I thought due to social network sites and I don’t use as much data as I thought I did. So when I look to choose a new deal minutes and texts are a non issue. And my worry about not having a large enough data limit is unfounded as I barley even use 100MG of data per month. I had a quick look what a 32GB iPhone 4 would set me back and I would save a lot of money per month but I would have to pay for the phone up front. Where I could get the handset for free, the tariff was about what I pay per month now, but with more minutes and texts. I’m holding out for the new iPhone anyway so it’s a case of me negotiating my monthly charge down whilst I’m on a rolling contract and then seeing what deals are available once the new iPhone is launched.
I really recommend the service especially if your in the final 3 months of the service of an existing contact. Even if there isn’t a deal through the service that you’re interested in, the service provides a great breakdown of how you actually use your phone; rather than what you think you’ll need from a phone contract. Plus it gives you good ammunition to negotiate with your network if you see their competitors providing the same deal cheaper or adding more extras on top of the same monthly cost.
