3D TV Has Arrived at Laskys
3D TV has now launched. But your probably wondering what all the fuss is about.
Gone are the red and green polarising lenses replaced by new glasses that correct two simultaneous broadcast on the cinema screen, so you see the correct image in the correct eye. Creating depth on screen as well as images that will jump out at you. And with the success in the cinema of James Cameron’s Avatar which has set the benchmark for 3D films and expect more films to follow.
“Ok so that’s the cinema, what about for the home?” which you may be shouting. As with all films they eventually go on general sale, usually these days on either DVD and Blu Ray. And when you by a Blu Ray of the film surely you want an experience a cinema like experience when you watch the film. Well we’ll go back to the Avatar example, eventually they’ll be a Blu Ray with the film in 3D which you’ll be able to slot into a new 3D enabled Blu ray player ready to watch on a shiny 3D TV giving you the full 3D experience in you home.
And even if blockbuster films are exactly your cup of tea. Sky will be launching a 3D service in the near future. Covering sport, films and other programs. Football has already been trialled in select pubs across the UK.
But the key advance will probably come from the video games industry. Just imagine yourself fully immersed in a first person shoot like Call of Duty or Gears of War with shrapnel and flash bangs flying out of the screen. Or platform games where you will feel like you looking down into an abyss on most ledges. Here’s a clip from Engadget of a chap playing Wipeout on the PS3 in full 3D having endless amounts of fun http://bit.ly/186jeF.
If this is enough to convince you to take the plunge into 3D here’s a run down of the kit you will need:
3D enabled TV
3D active shutter lenses
3D player ( SKY+ HD Box, 3D enabled Blu Ray Player)
HDMI v1.4 Leads
*very important you buy 1.4 HDMI as it’s the only type of HDMI cable capable relaying the volume of data from 3D receiver to a 3D telly. Remember it’s two simultaneous images that will be broadcast which will create the 3D effect*
